This set was apparently once in the library of American politician Senator Henry Cabot Lodge (1850-1924), according to the Tiffany & Co. bookplate in each book which carries his name and motto ("Spero Infestis Metuo Secundis"). Lodge, a close friend of Theodore Roosevelt's, strongly and successfully opposed American entry in President Wilson's League of Nations.
